MOTORCYCLE ROAD TRIPS
A motorcycle road trip is experiencing the freedom and rush that riding brings, to the max. It is being able to get away from it all, leaving work and all of the day to day routine behind, to enjoy what lies ahead on the open road. Some like to plan every detail ahead of time, and some like to have the trip be in the moment, seeing what is around the next bend in the road.
Even for those that are the, take off down the road and see where we end up type, there are some things to plan ahead. Having protective gear is one of these. For all riders motorcycle helmets and motorcycle leather jackets are a must. This is the minimum amount of protective gear that will help keep a rider safer out on the open road. The helmet obviously is to keep the head and brain safe in case there is some kind of accident, and motorcycle leather jackets keep the skin of a rider safe from abrasion in an accident or having to lay the bike down, as well as protection for the rider from rocks and flying debris. Take a first aid kit on a road trip to handle some of the smaller unexpected things that may come up.
It is a good idea to have a full bike inspection done before leaving on a road trip to safeguard against mechanical problems. This should include all the controls, oils, tires, fluids and engine. Also take information for roadside assistance to avoid being caught off guard in the event you do break down. Another part of a road trip that is good to somewhat plan out, or to at least be aware of, is fuel stops. It is important to be aware of long sections of road that are on the trip that will not have gas stations. Some bikes have more touring range than others. It depends on the size of the fuel tank, the kind of mileage they get and the load the bike will be carrying. If a bike has a tank with a 4.7 gallon capacity and gets 36 miles per gallon on average, it can travel 169.2 miles before it runs out of gas, whereas a bike with a tank size of 3.7 gallons that gets 54 miles per gallon on average can go almost 200 miles before refuelling.
Planning plenty of stops is also a good idea for a much needed break. Travelling a long distance without taking a rest can be extremely dangerous, especially when fatigue starts to set in. If your road trip is going to last a few days it works well to have a day in there that does not consist of riding. This will create feeling far more refreshed and ready to hit the road the next day.
Motorcycle road trips are the best way to see, and be on the open road. Every state boasts their must see beauties, both natural and architectural, events, places to stay and to eat. So get your favourite riding friends wearing motorcycle leather jackets and take off down the open road, to experience all of the adventure that is just around the next bend.

Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man [VHS] $4.49 Sheathing itself in bad taste, this film flaunts its tackiness, its machismo, and its very stupidity, which of course makes for a lot of dopey fun. Harley Davidson (Mickey Rourke) returns to his roots, the LA of 1996 (the film was set in the near future, as it was made in 1991). Burbank has become an airport, a new drug called Crystal Dream is all the rage, and Harley’s favorite bar is being torn … |
